PowTechnology Is Helping Develop Young Engineers Of The Future!
PowTechnology has a proud history of developing young engineering talent! Schemes have included the UK Government Kickstart Scheme, Staffordshire University’s Innovation and Productivity Pathfinder programme and PhD Sponsorship as part of Keele University’s prestigious Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND) project!
Most recently, we have been joined by Sophie Rimmer, who is studying her BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Engineering at South Staffordshire College.
Sophie told us, “I have always been interested in the process of design and manufacturing. This course was ideal because it incorporated machining, computer aided design, CNC, 3D printing and hand fitting skills. The college has great facilities and the course gave me time to find relevant work experience at PowTechnology!
I work part time during the term and full time in my holidays. The work is extremely varied from cable and enclosure prep and stocktaking to final wiring, firmware updates and testing of Metrons, which are PowTechnology’s telemetry devices.
It’s the best job I’ve ever had! I have learnt so much and everyone has been absolutely lovely. I can ask anyone for help and they all do everything they can to support me!
I have another year on this course, then I hope to work full time and continue my education with an Engineering Degree, perhaps at the University of Coventry.”
Jaspal Dhaliwal, PowTechnology’s Engineering Operations Manager added, “Sophie works hard, learns quickly and is a pleasure to work with. I look forward to giving her more responsibility and seeing her develop within our team.”
Sophie recently celebrated her 18th birthday! Outside work and college, she enjoys activities like ice skating, bowling and mini-golf with friends. She is also a Manchester United fan, having been a footballer herself, playing for her local Polesworth team.
