Around 10 years ago they embraced PowTechnology’s IIoT kit to help define what normal train operating scenarios were, in order to identify anomalies and assist customers with strategic decision-making. The objectives were to extend asset longevity, eliminate unscheduled maintenance, reduce costs and to improve passenger safety and comfort.
Sensor data is now collected regularly and reliably on a range of parameters including exhaust, coolant, oil and charge air temperatures, saloon temperature, humidity and CO2 levels, fuel and effluent tank levels. Alerts are generated, so timely action can be taken to minimise issues.
