Ian Bourke Celebrates Five Years as PowTechnology’s Finance Manager!

Congratulations to Ian Bourke, who is celebrating his fifth work anniversary with PowTechnology! During that time, he’s become our champion representative at corporate golf days and delighted us with his magic tricks at socials! On a more serious note, we asked him for his thoughts on the last five years and what he sees for PowTechnology going forward.

“It’s certainly been a dynamic five years! We’ve had Covid on the one hand, but also significant investment, massive growth, new Directors and even a new name!

Initially, I put a lot of effort into creating and refining internal procedures to prepare for planned growth. That is obviously a continuous process, but the timing was perfect, hugely strengthening our resilience over Covid, from supply chain management to remote working.

We’ve built on that foundation to maintain ISO9001 and gain ISO27001 accreditation. At a time when cyber security is under intense scrutiny, I’m delighted that we offer internationally recognised reassurance and I’m sure it helps organisations choose us as their partner, when embracing digital transformation.

PowTechnology has grown and developed in so many ways. My own department has evolved to encompass formal project management as well as traditional finance functions.

For me, another huge change is the growth of our talented, in-house IIoT Development Team. This has allowed us to build on our proven m2m software and hardware and stay ahead of an incredibly fast-paced market. It’s seen us develop a range of versatile, digital transformation ‘building blocks’ which makes us incredibly agile!

I love that this modular approach is based entirely on customer research. We’ve developed proofs of concept within weeks and launched innovations to market amazingly quickly. This flexibility and control over development keeps our customers ahead of their competition, even in challenging commercial landscapes.

I think that strong relationships with our customers and the ability to respond quickly to emerging market needs are key strengths. We have a fantastic management team that really support that strategy.

Our agility was recognised last year, when we were appointed Siemens Solutions Partners. We’ve worked with Siemens measurement instrumentation for decades, but now that relationship has been formalised. We customise their kit into customer-specific, end-to-end digital transformation solutions. It’s a really exciting development! It’s great to have the trust and endorsement of a global brand and its taken us far deeper into new markets, such as quarries.

Essentially, we help the customer select the right monitoring solution for their application, then we integrate it and commission it for them. We make their lives as easy as possible, so they can benefit from their data, even without specialist engineering skills. It’s a great concept and a natural evolution for a company that always puts customer needs at the forefront of any solution.

This approach extends into Finance too. We now offer a far wider range of financing options in the form of POW£PAY, to support our customers corporate structures and strategy.

PowTechnology is a such a fast-paced environment! When I joined, we had just launched the Metron4 telemetry device. Now, we’re launching the Metron5, MetronEx and MetronTANKHUB on top of all the specialised Siemens solutions and custom developments.

Looking to the longer term, we have a fantastic foundation to continue our growth in traditional and emerging sectors. Covid changed the world! People and organisations are embracing digital transformation more than ever before and we have solutions that are super-scalable, from just one installation to thousands.

We have off-the-shelf proven, secure, easy install and intuitive kit and we have the flexibility and know-how to design custom solutions for a massive range of industries and applications. The future has already begun!

I must take this opportunity to thank my excellent colleagues. We’re a close-knit team in Finance. Everyone has well-defined roles and responsibilities. People are empowered to fulfil those, but it really is a team. Communication is great, everyone is super friendly and flexible and coming to work is a pleasure!
