How Does The PowUtilities Solution Work?

• PowUtilities supply and fit our proprietary metering technology – retrofit or new units.
• Readings are taken at user-defined intervals and sent to the PowUtilities portal.
• End-users (eg caravan owners) pay via the portal & top up credit before utilities are consumed.
• End users can view their consumption and credit on their unique online account
• Site owners invoice PowUtilities, based on consumption reports & site owners pay their utility suppliers.
• It is also possible for Site Owners to administrate the system themselves, generally in the case of short-term rentals.

How can we help you with multi-occupancy SMART metering?

Radio telemetry, especially de-licensed, was an early method used by the UK water industry and other utilities from the 1980’s to remotely monitor assets such as reservoir levels, pump status and more.

With radio telemetry, there are no ongoing data costs and there is no reliance on an external infrastructure.

Whilst there are many other technologies available, radio telemetry can be the most reliable and practical alternative for specific remote monitoring applications.

What can radio telemetry do for you?

Sigfox is the most widely deployed proprietary LPWAN low-power wide-area network technology, with networks in around 60 countries and covering 95% of the UK population.

Typical Sigfox applications include remote electricity, water and gas meter reading for billing and waste/leakage detection. Sigfox is also used for temperature and humidity monitoring and a broad range of pulse counting and contact counting applications, including people counting and trespass alerts.

Typically, a Sigfox battery lasts up to 10 years, for readings every 2 hours, depending on the amount of energy required by the sensor(s). Data can be sent every 10 minutes if required by the application, although daily readings are more common, greatly extending battery life.

PowTechnology has fully integrated Sigfox telemetry into our MetronView cloud.

What can Sigfox, combined with PowTechnology’s expertise, do for you?

PowTechnology can offer wi-fi solutions for situations involving multiple sensors that are fairly close together or where it is not practical to cable.

Sensors can connect to a hub via wi-fi or LoRa or be wired using ethernet, analogue, RS232 or RS485. Data can be transmitted by wi-fi, ethernet or using cellular networks.

PowTechnology has integrated wi-fi into our MetronView cloud.

What can Wi-Fi technology, combined with PowTechnology’s expertise, do for you?

LoRa/LoRaWAN stands for Long Range Radio and offers a longer range than wi-fi.

LoRa requires you to build your own network, unless there is already one in your locality to subscribe to. A wide range of mostly battery-powered sensors are available to add to your network and a single gateway can communicate with several hundred thousand devices several miles away, even penetrating buildings.

There are restrictions on packet sizes and how often units can transmit. LoRa is being discussed in relation to SMART cities, where councils or water companies, for example, want to monitor many devices. For them, it is a great investment to install some base stations and avoid ongoing license fees.
