Happy Anniversary Will! Three Years As a PowTechnology IIoT Solutions Architect!

Congratulations to Will Brown, who is celebrating his third work anniversary as an IIoT Solutions Architect with PowTechnology! His mission has been to understand our customers’ technical and commercial needs and to propose IIoT solutions, helping them achieve organisational objectives via digital transformation.

Will told us: “It’s been three years of incredibly positive change! I came to PowTechnology in the wake of a major investment. The company was growing in both confidence and physical numbers and there was a massive sense of optimism and belief.  It was a really exciting time to join and be part of that!

In that time, we have developed many different IIoT building blocks and been breaking down industrial jargon to make digital transformation real and accessible for people across all sectors. It’s been as much about convincing people that IIoT isn’t just marketing, it’s real products, software, people and solutions.

It’s been fabulous to build more strategic relationships with customers, getting far deeper into their applications and issues. It has allowed us to explore new industry sectors and dramatically enhance our offering where we had a historic presence.

I’ve love the process of personal and professional growth! As an example, PowTechnology exhibited at CHEMUK last May.  I challenged myself to really understand the regulatory environment surrounding emissions and compliance and how IIoT solutions could help. It is a subject close to my heart, promoting greater sustainability via a focus on emissions, energy, water, material efficiency and reuse. I had to review several key problems facing the industry and align solutions that we have deployed to them. I asked - Is your monitoring up to the compliance challenge?"

"One real brain-teaser for me was an application to measure various parameters connected to a corrosive liquid, in a tank, on a moving vehicle! There was a lot to get to grips with but fun … from the complexity of the linearised measure point to integrating the solution into the vehicle electrics!

Another really fun project has been developing the Ardent Fuel-It smart tank. That was a true partnership. PowTechnology needed to understand the customer’s business and what they were trying to achieve and then deliver on that vision. The concept was brand new and the requirements evolved as the project progressed. What a great sense of pride when that first production unit was delivered! A real team effort. The Fuel-It is already a sell-out, market-leading product and it is still evolving in line with more advanced customer needs.

Another really exciting partnership is our relationship with Siemens. PowTechnology are a Siemens Solution Partner, customising their instrumentation into end-to-end, customer-specific digital transformation solutions. It’s an amazing match up – Siemens huge industrial instrumentation portfolio, combined with our know-how and flexibility! It’s an excellent cocktail and one that we’ve all seen good success with."

"I’ve learned so much! They genuinely have an expert for every scenario and their support gives our customer the credibility of a global brand, blended with PowTechnology’s integration experience and agility.

This partnership is one of the reasons we have been to so many trade events this year, including Instrumentation Live, CHEMUK, Siemens Measurement Intelligence Product Launch Event and Siemens Transform. We also exhibited at Hillhead, a first for PowTechnology and a really fascinating insight into the mining, quarrying and aggregate industries. It’s a new sector for us, but with Siemens portfolio and support, we are now handling a large number of enquiries, especially for SCM IQ Smart Condition Monitoring.

I’m looking forward to the Digital Manufacturing Summit again this year. It’s a fantastic forum for understanding the practical application of cutting-edge technology. It's an opportunity to be immersed in current industry thoughts and news, gain insight from experts in our field but also adjacent parts of industry. I always feel, at the end of the data I’m supplying, there is like a data scientist or ML engineer doing something really clever!
