PowTechnology CEO, Dave Oakes, Reviews The First Half Of 2024

We asked CEO, Dave Oakes, to update us on PowTechnology’s progress through 2024.

“These are exciting times! There’s a huge focus on sustainability and more opportunities for digitalisation then ever!

Population and demand on resources is growing at a time of economic and environmental uncertainty. Digitalisation can be an amazing force for good, helping to create more, whilst consuming less. We’re seeing a surge in opportunities for environmental compliance, efficient use of water, fuel and resources and improved processing of waste.

PowTechnology’s case studies page demonstrates how IIoT innovations are increasingly supporting sustainability! There was certainly a massive sense of environmental consciousness at the events we’ve attended this year.

In January, we exhibited and presented at the inaugural Instrumentation Live. Will Brown, an IIoT Solutions Architect with PowTechnology, did a great job creating and delivering our seminar “The Sense In Sensing: What Can The Industrial Internet Of Things Do For Me?”  Aimed at sensor suppliers, integrators and users, it described how they could derive greater benefit from collecting and channelling instrumentation data to optimise processes.

We exhibited and presented once again at CHEMUK in May. This presentation was more sector-focused: IED Emissions Regulations Are Tightening Up - Is Your Monitoring Up To The Compliance Challenge? It covered how the regulatory environment within the chemical industry is evolving to promote greater sustainability, amplifying the focus on emissions, energy, water, material efficiency and reuse.

PowTechnology’s experience is that many organisations are not yet monitoring key processes holistically, consistently or with enough granularity for effective compliance reporting. We used real PowTechnology applications to show how intelligent deployment of remote monitoring has delivered dramatic results, even with modest investment.

2024 has seen our Siemens Solutions Partnership really blossom. We exhibited at Siemens Measurement Intelligence Product Launch event in March, showing reseller Partners how we can help them by customising Siemens measurement instrumentation into end-to-end digital transformation solutions. We’ve successfully delivered our first few projects via the Partnership and I fully anticipate many more, both via the Siemens ecosystem and beyond, in applications such as SMART condition monitoring, energy monitoring, emissions monitoring and tank level monitoring.

In June, Siemens instrumentation was well represented on our stand at Hillhead, the UK’s largest exhibition for quarrying, construction and recycling. Once again, we were exceptionally busy, this time focused on fully-integrated, easy-retrofit IIoT solutions benefits for abstraction and discharge of mine water, data analysis of bitumen and belt weighing, as well as the tank and silo level.

Our next event is Siemens Transform, taking place at Manchester Central on 17-18 July. We're so excited to be joining industry experts at this flagship UK and Ireland networking, stage programme and technology showcase. 

This year has focused on expansion within PowTechnology’s talented in-house IIoT Development Team. There has been huge progress on the ‘soon to be launched’ new Metron5 telemetry device, with its increased capabilities for ‘on the edge’ processing and improved sensor interfacing capabilities, such as for RS485 MODBUS.

We have also delivered enhancements to our MetronView IIoT platform and the industry-leading Ardent Fuel-It and developed hardware solutions for ATEX environments.

Product launches for the rest of 2024 include the Metron5L- a LoRa based telemetry device aimed at metering applications and a multi-tank local and remote solution, complete with full colour display and alarming.

So … exciting times indeed …. with new sectors embracing digital transformation, exciting new applications, often associated to sustainability and compliance and a range of fantastic new solutions to help our customers achieve their objectives.
